DATE NIGHT

datenight_IMG_5680It’s the weekend and hopefully all you ladies got to spend some quality time with your significant other.  For all the single ladies, and I mean me, we need to make sure that we are dressed to impress to catch that Bae, aka boyfriend.  To explain, a girlfriend recently told me it was “Bae Season” and that she needed to “Bae-Up”.  (Huh?)  Had no idea what that meant until I put on this outfit and realized that it was going to be a date night.

datenight_IMG_5705datenight_IMG_5641

This sexy little number is a Carmella Emeline Silk Dress in Magnolia that I got from a sample sale back in July this year.  I am so in love with this dress.  It does run a bit small on the hips, but I got a size 2 and plan on taking it into alterations to make this baby really rock.  The dress does come with an optional inner camisole, but I prefer to wear it without to show off it’s deep plunging neckline.  The buttons on this dress give it an extra sex-kitten boost.  This dress also comes in the color black and is on sale at Revolve.datenight_IMG_5707datenight_IMG_5708

In order to really show off the sexiness of the dress, I put on a Free People Front Strap Triangle Bra in Black.  The front straps on this bra gives the neckline a distraction from the lacey, racy bra.  It’s very in your face, so you can’t be shy to show off some skin.
datenight_IMG_5673datenight_IMG_5709

I have always been very bold and audacious with my fashion.  Even though this outfit shows off a lot of neckline and chest, I think the soft femininity of the silk, the buttons and the mid-length of the dress offsets the sexiness.  Don’t you agree?  Love to know what you think of this outfit!

MADE IN LA

IMG_5619

IMG_5615

Since moving to Los Angeles six years ago, I’ve come to adapt myself to her weather, her food, and mostly her fashion.  Her style is always trendy, but casual enough that you don’t feel threatened.  As most commercial casting breakdowns would put it: attractive, yet approachable.  This might not be true for everyone, but that’s how I’ve come to interpret LA fashion and that’s how I’ve come to style and dress myself.
IMG_5613

My ratio for dressing is 1:1.  For every one fancy/trendy item, I pair it with one casual/classic item.  So, if I’m wearing a cute peplum pencil skirt, then I’ll offset it with a casual plaid top.  This black and red checkered long-sleeve flannel is from the mens department of Uniqlo.  I got this from an Uniqlo store in Shanghai, China and their sizing is very different than the stores in the States.  The women shirts in China are much smaller and slimmer, and I wanted a shirt that had a more boyfriend feel than a little child.  I am wearing a size Small and it definitely has a lot of room and length.
madeinLA_IMG_5617IMG_5616

I just adore this Alice + Olivia Natasha Peplum Pencil Skirt.  1) The ponte jersey fabric is soft and has just enough stretch to let you walk with ease.  2) The peplum gives the pencil skirt a flirty, fun look.  Unfortunately, this style is currently sold out, but I did find it in the color Hot Pink.  Here are other similar looks:

LADY IN THE STREET

ladyinstreet_IMG_5605

I feel like I have been blogging about a lot of cool casual or trendy outfits, but have yet to touch base with the classy lady that’s inside of me.  I go out for a lot of auditions that require me to look more sophisticated and put together, which is probably why I’ve strayed away from it in my real life.  However, I love putting this outfit together.  It’s something I would wear going out on a date or grab a night cap with my girlfriends.  I feel very sexy and stylish in this fall outfit.

Every female needs a pencil skirt.  It doesn’t matter what your size, shape or religion is, trust me, you can pull off a pencil skirt.  The purpose of a pencil skirt is to flatter the curve of a female figure.  Now I know some of you are saying, but I don’t have any curves or I have too much curve.  Whichever the case, this skirt, with the appropriate stretch and fabric, can help accentuate what your have or don’t have.

This is an Amanda Uprichard Ponte Pencil Skirt that I got on super sale from Neiman Marcus a couple of years ago.  I have grown to really like the stuff from Amanda Uprichard.  It’s fine quality and they’re well priced, especially when they’re on sale.  This style in the color black is sold out, but Revolve currently has it available in the colors Bittersweet and Ivory.

lady_IMG_5396

I purchased this Zara Cropped Turtleneck two years ago.  It has been cold and windy in LA and this top is PERFECT for this weather.  Because my pencil skirt is work high-waisted, my cropped turtleneck cuts off perfectly at the waist, which lengthens the look of my legs.  If the top was any higher though it wouldn’t look as classy, and if it was any lower I would be hiding the smallest part of my curve.  Here are some similar looks:

Zara Cropped Sweater

UO Kimchi Blue Lace Trim Cropped Sweater in Black and White (on sale)

UO Kimchi Blue Cozy Mock Neck Sweater

UO Silence + Noise Cassie Turtleneck Sweater

UNIF x UO Fine Gauge Cropped Sweater

These are my favorite heels right now.  I just got these Steve Madden Varsity Stilettos in Wine Suede on sale at Lord & Taylors for under $50.  They are on sale again with an additional 20% off from now until Nov. 11 (see SALES for me details).  I have been blogging about my love for burgundy this fall, and now I have it in the form of these fabulous heels.  You will definitely be seeing me with these sexy heels on throughout this fall.  Here’s a similar look.

ladyinstreet_smile

I seriously considered chopping off my hair after the photoshoot of this outfit.  I’m still considering it, but I know my agents will be upset if I don’t have headshots to match my new hair ASAP.  Cutting/coloring hair is a bit more costly when you’re an aspiring actress because of all the things that come with changing your “look”.  Long hair makes you more youthful, but an edgy bob will make you more sophisticated and chic.  A woman.  A lady in the street.  I definitely love this look enough to bring it up with them the next time I see them.  What do y’all think?  Should I chop off my hair??  Leave a comment below and and let me know!

POPPY

poppy_IMG_5548

Last night it actually rained in Los Angeles, which brought in this perfect cold chill that made me smile.  Nothing like a little change in temperature to our unwavering sunny weather, and nothing like a little pop of color to add into our monochrome black and white wardrobe.  poppy_volkswagenI found this bright red Marc by Marc Jacobs Big Button Princess Peacoat a very, very long time ago at Neiman Marcus, and knew that I just had to buy it even if it meant going in debt for six months afterwards.  I have taken really great care of it and it has maintained it’s brilliancy and bold color.  I have a love for outerwear, and my friends are always confused as to why I purchase so many coats and jackets while living in LA.  And my only response is that I can wear it out that one time a year when it gets chilly and look fabulous.  Here are some similar looks:

GUESS Double-Breasted Pleasted Peacoat in Rouge (on sale at Macy’s)

Via Spiga Double-Breasted Flare Peacoat in Red (on sale at Macy’s)

MICHAEL Michael Kors Double-Breasted Peacoat in True Red (on sale at Macy’s)
poppy_IMG_5550poppy_strut

I am wearing a French Connection 3/4 Sleeve Striped Dress to offset the prissiness of the peacoat.  This is not a bodycon dress, and that is precisely the reason why I call this my go-to dress.  I purchased this dress one size up so that I can wear it loose and comfy, (FCUK is known to run small, so I would even consider going up two sizes if you’re unsure of the fit).  It still shows off curves where it needs to when you move, but you don’t have to wear a corset to get into this dress.  It’s my kind of sexy, casual-chic.  Here are some similar styles:

French Connection Starzy Stripe Long Sleeve Dress (on sale)

French Connection French Stripe Cotton Dress (on sale)

French Connection French Stripe Dress (on sale)
poppy_IMG_5546poppy_standing

And finally, we have the shoes.  These fringe style sandals have been popping up everywhere since the middle of summer and now I finally have a pair.  I threw this pair of heels into the look because it brings trend and sexiness to a very All-American look.  These Steve Madden Fringly Suede High-Heel Sandals in Beige are currently on sale.  I purchased them from Lord & Taylor during their Friends and Family Sale event three weeks ago and got it for $70.  They’re comfy and super cute.  It’s a bit hard to put on at first because the opening at the top is stiff and small, (even with it unzipped), but once your foot slips in it’s super fabulous.  I don’t ever spend too much on fashion items that are too trendy.  The look will go out of style by next season and I’ll have to store them away for a few years before they become vintage or stylish to wear again.  Here are similar styles:

Steve Madden Staarz Ankle Fringe Sandal in Taupe Suede (on sale at Nordstrom Rack)

LuLu’s Any Excursion Tan Suede Fringe Dress Sandals in Tan

ETERNAL

eternal_IMG_5401eternal_IMG_5402

LA fashion is very different from the rest of the country because of our never-ending warm temperature, but occasionally we get those nights where it drops down into the low 60s.  Those are the days that we want transitional pieces that go great with or without a jacket.  I found this Lovers + Friends Eternal Dress in Ivory during the Revolve (i.e. Tularosa, Lovers + Friends, NBD) Sample Sale last month (read SALES).  You’d hate me if I told you how much I actually bought it for, so let’s just say that it’s on sale right now.  The fabric is soft and durable, kind of like a scuba suit fabric, so it should keep me warm when it gets chilly at night.  This dress also comes with a long sleeve look.
eternal_IMG_5403

I purchased this Vince Fur Trimmed Hooded Anorak two years ago at Neiman Marcus when they had a special on Vince outerwear.  It was still pricey, but this coat is simple enough that I can wear it year after year.  Definitely an investment piece.  I like that the coat is light with a removable coyote fur-trim and hood.  This way I can wear it all the way into spring season without looking too bundled up.  This coat is no longer available, but here are some similar looks:

eternal_IMG_5277eternal_IMG_5399

I’m not worried about wearing white after Labor Day, especially this dress.  Remember ladies, it’s okay to be a rebel at times and take risks in fashion.  This outfit is chic but not overly done and can be worn to lunch and/or dinner and a movie.  Thank y’all for reading and let me know if you have any questions or comments!

DIRTY SOUTH PT. TWO

LAGRANGE, GA

dirtysouth_IMG_5244

People call the south, the dirty south.  However, LaGrange, GA, a small town about an hour outside of Atlanta, is anything but dirty.  People move out here to this country side town and commute into the city so they can have a certain lifestyle: clean air, zero traffic, and southern charm.  I saw colored leaves falling and blowing into the wind, and smelled the rain as it brought in a very brisk chill of fall.  I have been anticipating this since I left Los Angeles, and it’s such a refreshing feeling.

Processed with VSCOcam with a6 presetdirtysouth_IMG_5330

I wasn’t able to sign up for classes using my Classpass due to a very tight schedule in Atlanta, so I wanted to make sure I got in a workout or two during these three full days in Georgia.

I’m wearing Nike Shorty Women’s Tank Top in Black.  This style is currently sold out, but here’s a similar look that’s currently on sale at Nike.  My shoes are Nike Airmax Tailwind 6 in White/Pink/Citrus.

My 3/4 yoga pant is from H&M.  I bought mine for less than $20 about two years ago, and they’re still holding up very well.  Though the color black is currently sold out, the dark grey is still available for under $25.  I highly recommend these tights.

I’m also wearing Without Walls T-Back Bra in Maroon from Urban Outfitters.  This super cute and sexy sports bra is currently on sale for less than $20 online.  I got a small and it fits true to size.

dirtysouth_IMG_5328

dirtysouth_IMG_5329

I wanted to explore the town more, but due to the rain we had to cut our exploration short.  We decided to move our workout indoors and into Body Control Pilates Studio‘s brand new studio and location at 220 Main St. in LaGrange, GA.  The studio is sleek, modern, clean, and very zen.  All the equipment are brand spanking new, and for the duration of your class you feel like you’re in a WeHo trendy workout facility.  They offer many specials, so if you live in the surrounding area please checkout their website and Facebook page for more info.

My friend, Lindsay Cagle, is an instructor at the studio and was teaching two classes back to back, so I decided to take BOTH of her afternoon classes: Pilates Meets Barre and Pilates Sculpt.  I’ve been blogging about working out hardcore since April, but taking these two classes whooped my butt. I knew Lindsay’s chiseled arms didn’t come from holding her two precious kids, and I have so much more love and admiration for her spirit and athleticism after taking her classes.

dirtysouth_IMG_5325

My trip to LaGrange was even shorter than the one in Atlanta.  I am so blessed I got to dine with old friends, take pictures of colored leaves, and workout with one of my best friends in the whole world on this trip.  Big thanks to Lindsay and her beautiful family for being so hospitable during my short stay, and thank y’all for reading my little fashion blog!  Go Jackets!

BEST COMBO

bestcombo_outfit

Like peas and carrots, plaid shirts and denim make the best combo.  It’s the All-American classic look.  It’s fall season so it’s time to bring out those long sleeve plaid shirts that we’ve been storing in our closet for the past six months, or been wearing it wrapped around our waist for the past six months.  Rails is my favorite plaid shirt brand.  They’re the most comfortable SoCal-fashion shirts to wear.  Their shirts are pretty stiff at original price, (still worth the cost), but they go on sale often and they’ll never go out of style.

bestcombo_IMG_4975bestcombo_IMG_4970

I got this Rails Kendra Cuff Contrast Plaid Shirt in Green last year around Christmas from Saks Off 5th for less than $60 with tax.  This style is sold out, but here is a very similar look that’s also less than $60 right now.  This is my go-to online store for all Rails shirts because the price is always half of it’s original price.  I wear an XS in their shirts and it fits true-to-size.
bestcombo_IMG_5333

These jeans are Current Elliott The Low Bell in Gibson.  This pair is super low rise with a natural 34″ inseam so I had to alter the hem and it still can be a bit long with platform boots.  The legs are slim and there is not much give/stretch in the fabric.  The good thing is that Current Elliott runs a size bigger than most designer jeans, so if you have a curvier figure I would suggest ordering your regular size and it will fit just right.  Here’s a similar look that’s less expensive.
bestcombo_IMG_5338bestcombo_IMG_5339

You can’t go wrong with this wardrobe combination.  I would stock up on Rails around the holiday time when stores are offering extra discounts on top of their regular sales.

Love to hear from y’all.  Feel free to leave a comment or send an email and I’ll be sure to respond.  Thanks for reading!

HEY MICKEY

heymickey_IMG_5289

I just got back from visiting Atlanta, and the first thing I could think of when flying back to Los Angeles was Disneyland.  Not so much that it’s the happiest place on Earth or that it’s a huge landmark that represents SoCal, but the fact that I have lived in LA for six years and have NEVER been to Disneyland.  That’s almost as shocking as me saying I’ve never been to Coachella either.  You’re probably thinking that I should stop blogging right now and start living life, which I completely agree, but then who would be here to tell you about the fabulous sales and where to shop?  Let’s all just take a step back and look at how cute and appropriate this outfit is for SoCal weather right now. heymickey_IMG_5288heymickey_IMG_5296

These OneTeaspoon Ivory Bonitas Denim Shorts were only $52 when I purchased them during the Northern Hemisphere Sale last month, which took 50% off everything site wide.  I got a size 24 and they fit very loosely around my hips, but they are suppose to be low-waist relaxed fit.  What I love about this brand is that most of their denim shorts are all cut to where the fabric in the back is much longer than the fabric in the front, so my booty gets coverage.  They still are cut high in the front so don’t worry about not being able to show off your legs.

I got this Mickey Mouse sweatshirt from a small boutique in Shanghai, China.  I love the whole Disney-themed sweatshirts that are trending at Forever21 right now.  Here are some of my favorites that have a similar look:

heymickey_IMG_5287

In order to elongate the look of my legs, I paired this outfit with a pair of Steve Madden Serrpant Platform Pumps in Blush Leather.  This style is currently sold out, but here is a similar look.  It’s better if you stay away from patent leather for this outfit because you don’t want to draw attention to your feet with shiny leather.  I would opt for nude/tan matte or suede leather.  You want to look long and tall, but discreetly by camouflaging your heels with your legs.

heymickey_IMG_5268

Glad it’s finally cooled down a bit in LA, and I can’t wait to start blogging about my great fall coats.  Anyone else still wearing shorts and rompers during the day?

DIRTY SOUTH PT. ONE

ATLANTA

dirtysouth_IMG_5078

This past weekend, I had the privilege of traveling to Atlanta, GA to watch the Georgia Tech vs Florida State Homecoming Football Game at Bobby Dodd Stadium.  I haven’t been inside the stadium in almost a decade, and it felt really good to be home at a college football game.  We ended up winning the game at the very end in the most epic fashion, (no pun intended), which just made the weekend that much more memorable.
dirtysouth_IMG_5047

Living in LA has it’s perks: sunny, clear skies, and 80 degree temperature year round.  What I miss though from the east coast is the foliage, the feel of fall air, and the southern hospitality.  I found red and purple maple leaves on the ground and it just brought back nostalgic memories of college and camping with my friends in the Blue Ridge Mountains.dirtysouth_barcelona_brunchdirtysouth_atlanta_barcelona_food

I stayed with a friend who lives in Inman Park, and I absolutely fell in love with this part of town.  From the trendy restaurants to the graffiti and sculptures that line The Beltline, everything about this area was unique, artistic, and hip.  Still, it had a quaint, neighborhood vibe that attracts the young families with small children.

We had brunch at a Spanish tapas restaurant, Barcelona Wine Bar.  The decor inside was dark, industrial and sexy.  They offer a make-your-own Bloody Mary bar, which is what I got, and their brunch menu contained a very delicious, vegetarian-friendly dish, Coca del Dia.  I was a bit worried that the south wouldn’t be as kind to my California-spoiled diet, but I didn’t have any problems anywhere finding yummy dishes that fit my dietary restrictions.

dirtysouth_IMG_5214

After the football game we came back to Inman Park and had dinner and a night cap at Bartaco.  Talk about a cool, fun restaurant.  The vibe here was young, diverse and lively.  I got the Portobello Rice Bowl, which was just perfect with a little of their house Jalapeño hot sauce.
dirtysouth_atlanta_mcqueendirtysouth_atlanta_streetstyle

Now for the good stuff that I normally blog about: my outfit.  I chose a very comfortable and easy outfit for the football game because, well, it’s a football game.  Then again, I also wasn’t given many options.  I didn’t do my homework and check to see if there was a theme for Homecoming, and it turns out it was a “White Out”.  I brought only ONE white item, my UO Out From Under Woven Placket Henley Top.  I paired that with my black Zara High Waist Jeans and my old black Zara Leather Platform Ankle Boot.

dirtysouth_IMG_5055

I saw all kinds of interesting art along The Beltline.  I was at awe at some of the graffiti and sculptures made out of recycled trash.  Once complete, the Beltline is suppose to be a grand twenty-eight mile loop.  I didn’t get to see much of the loop since we were short on time, (and the fact that I was wearing 5-inch platform boots), so I’m going to make sure to come back and visit wearing appropriate footwear.dirtysouth_IMG_5147dirtysouth_IMG_5148dirtysouth_IMG_5143

Sunday I had brunch plans at The Haven Restaurant and Bar in Brookhaven with my best friends and sorority sisters from college.  We are the L’s.  I have known these girls for almost half our lifetime.  I am proud that these great wives and mothers are my closest friends, and that we are able to pick back up exactly where we left things each time we meet up.  They are my true inspirations in life.

I packed very light for my three day trip and kept my weekend wardrobe casual.  For brunch I wore J.Crew Petite Keep Chambray Shirt (sold out, similar look), Zara High Waist Jeans and my black Zara Leather Platform Ankle Boot.

This is the first time I took photos and blogged about food.  I apologize for the pictures, but I promise you the food was amazing.  I had another Bloody Mary, (extra spicy), and it was PERFECT.  I also ordered Shrimp and Grits (with no sausage), and devoured my whole plate.  We sat outside on the back patio and it was just the perfect setting for our reunion.

ESSENCE

essence_IMG_4999

I’ll be honest, when I started KANGTHROPOLOGIE about six weeks ago I didn’t really know what I was doing, and probably still don’t.  Haha!  I know I love fashion.  I know I love to shop.  I’m pretty good at styling myself, friends and family members.  I’m a great savvy shopper, and I know how to find awesome deals on fashion pieces that are trending in the moment.  However, I wasn’t sure I had a distinct voice.  What was my style?  How would I describe my fashion?

I’m an actress and my wardrobe is quite eclectic.  I sometimes dress boho, and other times I dress minimalistic in black, white or grey.  But as I started styling myself for the blog, I realized that a pattern was recurring over and over.  My choices are always classy and feminine, but with a little bit of edge.  It will be pants, but with a crop top (i.e. CROPPED, CLAY).  Or it’s a one-piece swimsuit, but crochet and revealing (i.e. SAMPLING).

This outfit is just the right amount of juxtaposition between classy and edgey.  It’s feminine, but not.  It’s casual, but not.  In an essence, it’s very me.  It’s very KANGTHROPOLOGIE.
