Every winter I bust out my “winter-ish” fabrics: corduroy, faux fur, and of course, velvet. The crushed velvet look is just perfect for those holiday parties and events. It screams done-up without being too much, which is why it looks great as a maxi dress, as a pair of flare pants, and especially as a jumpsuit. Here are some of my favorite velvet and crushed velvet items of the season:
I fly home to Dallas, TX this Friday, and I’m weary of what to pack. The weather there keeps fluctuating and I’m scared that I may not pack enough warm clothes or vice versa. I’m definitely bringing my HAH jumpsuit, (as I’m seen wearing), for the Christmas party my sister is throwing at her house on Saturday. It covers just enough skin so my father doesn’t think I’m a hooker in LA, but it’s fancy enough to say, “Hey, I’m from LA”.
Sorry folks, but I’ll probably be MIA on the blog until after Christmas. However, I’ll still be active on my Instagram as I have lots of great outfits that I’ve just shot and can’t wait to post and share. If you like any of my outfits, you can shop it at my Poshmark account or follow my LikeToKnow. It links! Merry Christmas!
Can you believe it’s already Thursday? Sheesh…this week has flown by so quickly. I have a few of my sorority sisters flying in this weekend, and I can’t wait to spend a long relaxing weekend laying out by the pool, indulging in delicious food, and just catching up with them.
Speaking of a relaxing weekend, Easter was just this past Sunday, and I got to celebrate it in an unconventional way. Normally, I would do Easter the traditional way: get up and go to church, and then get drunk off mimosas at brunch with my girlfriends. However, this year I got to just lay low. LA was ever so peaceful and quiet due to #Coachella weekend one, and so I got to grab brunch pretty much anywhere I wanted. We opted for LuLu’s Cafe, and I highly recommend their iced dirty chai. It’s SO EFFIN yummy!
After brunch we stopped by Rolling Greens nursery because I’ve been obsessed with adding a big green plant in my studio. Can I just say I found my new FAVORITE place to shop for home decor! Everything in there was just mesmerizing and beautiful. I walked in expecting to come home with an Elephant Ear plant, but ended up going with a medium sized Philodendron ‘Rojo Congo’.
After shopping for candles and plants, we decided we might stop by the Melrose Trading Post flea market, but decided to just take my dog out to LACMA and enjoy an afternoon stroll. I have been living under a rock and haven’t had Indian food in like 9 years, so later that evening we ordered Indian food from a neighborhood Indian restaurant, India’s Tandoori. You HAVE TO get the Mushroom Korma. It is utterly mouth watering good.
Easter was nothing exciting, but I got to explore my neighborhood in peace and quiet. It may not be the conventional way to spend Easter, but I kind of prefer it this way.
Happy Monday everyone! How quickly time flies by. In just the week that I’ve been back from my vacation in Taiwan, so many things have happened. We have a new president-elect. There are protests and campaigns for the electoral college to rethink what’s best for the nation, and I’m already requesting off work for the holidays. Yup, 2017 is just around the corner, which means it’s the never-ending holiday parties season.
I’m from Texas and we eat only one kind of cake: red velvet. And that’s just how I like my holiday outfits: red and velvet. The velvet fabric looks smooth and sexy, and the color red adds the touch of festivities to the mix.
I’m wearing LuLu’s Spin Me ‘Round Burgundy Velvet Jumpsuit in a size S, and this is just decadent. I love how plunging the halter neckline is, and there are pockets that I can stick my hands in when I get cold. This jumpsuit will definitely turn heads at your company party. Here are some of my other favorite velvet jumpsuits to wear this holiday season:
I recently worked with a new photographer, Silvia, who reached out to me about a photographic series that she’s doing called “Hair Biome”. In order to promote female strength and awareness, she’s photographing her female subjects tossing and whipping their hair to embrace their feminine beauty regardless of their race or age.
We had a blast! Regardless of your political views, I encourage all women to stand up, unite, and speak out about our rights…especially now that we have a president elect who may not have the highest regards for women. Xo!
As you may or may not know, I have a deep love for outerwear. I buy jackets, coats, cardigan sweaters, and dusters at any opportunity I see fit, regardless of temperature or the season. I knew way back in May of this year that I was going to wear this gorgeous velvet Reformation Poinsettia Blazer when the right time came. I knew I had a velvet crush, but this was lust at first sight. So, at the Reformation sample sale, I decided to take the plunge and buy a blazer that I knew I wasn’t going to be able to wear for at least another 4-5 months.
I couldn’t be more pleased with my decision. I am so utterly obsessed with the tailoring, the color, the fit, the cut, and the feel of this jacket. It is quite essentially my favorite jacket of the season. However, being the fashion pirate that I am, I wasn’t about to pair this classy looking blazer with a stiff, skin-tight dress or even a pair of fashionable trousers. NO. This blazer deserves a free flowing, hippie-vibing, sexy-ass Blue Life String Along Jumper.
Here are some of my favorite, (and very similar), velvet blazers and jumpsuits:
