My typical morning starts out as so:
7am – Wake up and grab my laptop and iPhone and start responding to emails and DM’s on Instagram while still laying in my bed. This is also usually the time that I set up my Instagram post and start engaging.
9am – I am done with my engagements and post, and I get ready for my morning workout. I brush my teeth. Walk my dog. Change into my workout clothes.
10am – Workout of some sort at some studio in WeHo.
11am – Go home. Shower. Maybe get ready depending on what else I have going on the rest of the day.
12pm – Lunch. Meetings. Auditions. Events. Etc.
This all sounds reasonable for a typical blogger morning. I’m not sleeping in or being lazy with my morning. HOWEVER, I always have that feeling like there’s not enough hours in a day, and I’m having to heavily prioritize my auditions, my events, and my photoshoots. Then recently, I made an unintentional change to my morning routine and I noticed how much more productive I was with my day.
What is this subtle change I made? All I did was switch around my morning workout time. Rather than answering emails and do posting first thing in the morning, I would instead get out of bed, brush my teeth, walk my dog, and go to a 6am or 7am workout class. I would be showered and ready to go by 8:30am. I still answered emails and did my post and engagements, but now I was showered and awake.
I realized that my brain wasn’t fully functional at 7am laying in my bed answering emails. I would take longer to think of a witty caption, or diddle around on the internet reading The Daily Beast articles or watch funny dog videos. I wasn’t taking full advantage of those two hours I spent on my laptop, and if I had an audition in the morning I would skip out on my workout altogether. I didn’t like the idea of showering, getting all ready with hair and makeup, and then getting sweaty and have to shower all over again. By getting my workout out of the way first thing in the morning, I was so much more functional and productive with the rest of my day.
I know several of you reading this are probably thinking, “DUH! That’s what most of us do”, but realize that not everyone is a morning person. Some prefer to have their workouts during the mid-day or at night, depending on their own schedule. With my acting and blogging commitments, I just noticed that this is what has worked out best for me in terms of raising my productivity level. I think being fully awake before I answer my emails and do my post(s) makes me work more efficiently, and I would recommend those that have the flexibility with their schedules to try this out. You’ll notice a difference in your motivation and your work. Thanks for reading and have a happy Thursday everyone!
xo, Linda
