kangthropologie_basics_IMG_7552I recently did a spring cleaning of my closet.  I basically created three piles: a KEEP, a STORE, and a SELL.  The KEEP pile is everything I’m currently wearing throughout this spring season and need it readily available.  I also put in a new clause this year for my KEEP pile.  I read somewhere that everything you own you should be able to hug it and love it, so I did just that.  If I hugged it (shirt, jeans, shorts, etc), and I still loved it, I kept it.  However, if it no longer served me purpose after hugging it, I put it in the SELL pile.  (FYI, I plan on having a $1 sale soon on all my SELL pile items.  More info and details to come!)  The STORE pile was for all my thick winter coats, knits and accessories that I no longer needed since it’s 89 degrees today.

While all this cleaning was happening, I noticed that the things that I kept the most in my KEEP pile were my basics: white tees, cotton button-ups, denim.  When it comes down to it, the classics and basics are what you wear most often, and you go back to it over and over again.  That’s why you love it, and that’s why you keep it.

kangthropologie_basics_IMG_8680 kangthropologie_basics_IMG_8681I am wearing a James Perse Collarless Shirt in White that I got a few years ago from their sample sale, (they normally have one at their headquarters in Marina Del Rey around May and December every year).  It was a STEAL!  This shirt is one of my favorite shirts to wear, EVER.  The quality of the cotton fabric is to die for, and I can wear it either loosely tucked-in or tied-up around my waist.  Here are some VERY similar looks:

These awesome ZARA Relax Fit Ripped Jeans are some of the best denim I’ve ever purchased under $50.  The fact that they are so comfy and soft and yet ridiculously affordable baffles me everyday.  I don’t know how ZARA does it, but hats off to them and I hope they continue to do more good in the fashion world.  Here’s a similar look.

It’s hump day and I’m officially a member of the mile high club.  Get you mind out of the gutter people, (even though I wish that were true).  I’m not talking about THAT mile high club, I’m talking about the super high-waisted denim club.  It has such a super long high rise of the waist that they had to name it mile high.  kangthropologie_milehigh_IMG_8578 kangthropologie_milehigh_IMG_8616 kangthopologie_milehigh_IMG_8475 kangthropologie_milehigh_IMG_8621 kangthropologie_milehigh_IMG_8619 kangthropologie_milehigh_IMG_8499

I haven’t stopped wearing these Levi’s Mile High Black Wash Skinny Jeans since I purchased them a few weeks ago.  They’re currently on sale and they will disappear FAST.  They are available in other denim washes, and I plan on snatching them up quickly.

What I love about this pair of jeans is that the super high-waist makes women with short legs look like they have the potential to be long.  I love the faded black wash.  I pair this some black platform boots and I’ve just elongated myself at least four inches.  The material has a lot of stretch, and it doesn’t make me look like my booty has disappeared into the midst of the skinny fit.

Here’s a very similar look that I’m currently obsessed with and searching EVERYWHERE for my size.kangthropologie_milehigh_IMG_8485

In order to keep that linear off-black look, I’m wearing an old Free People Crochet Cuff Henley in Gray.  This shirt is a few years old and is no longer available.  However, here are some very similar looks:

Happy Chinese New Year everyone!  It’s the year of the fire monkey and I am excited to a brand new start!

My sister called me yesterday and told me this beautiful story about my 7-year old nephew riding his bike.  He ended up crashing his bike into a mailbox, but what was amazing about it was WHY he crashed into the mailbox.  He told her it was because he closed his eyes and breathed.  …Yeah.  Wow.  Life.  It’s suppose to be like that.  A 7-year old had to teach me that you’re suppose to take in life, breath, and just be.

This new year has me thinking about who I am, what I am, and how old I am.  Sure, I’m Chinese, so I look younger than my actual age.  However, I noticed that I don’t really dress my age either.  I feel young.  Maybe it’s the LA bubble, but I think youth can be achieved physically, aesthetically, and mentally.  My fashion gives me individuality, and if it means I look a few years or a decade younger, so be it.  I’m just enjoying life, closing my eyes and breathing.

kangthropologie_age_outfit kangthropologie_age_IMG_8601 kangthropologie_age_IMG_8596 kangthropologie_age_IMG_8604

Nothing says youth like a good pair of overalls.  I purchased these H&M Denim Shorts with Suspenders last year, and I always receive the best compliments when I wear these cute shorts out.  I purchased two sizes up because they are suppose to be super cheeky.  I just couldn’t see myself at my older age with my ass hanging out of my shorts.  Not my thing.  Not my look.  These shorts are no longer available, but here are similar looks:

Light Denim Blue Bleached Suspender Shorts

Navy Denim High Waist Removable Suspender Overall Shorts

If I’m wearing shorts on the bottom, I like to keep it tame on top.  No need to be overtly sexy.  Sometimes, the casual demure sweatshirt is more sexy than the in-your-face tops.  I want to look young-er, not 17.  With all that said, I’m wearing a J. Crew Classic Crewneck Sweatshirt in Marled Grey.  It’s so comfy and perfect I wore it for three days straight.  Here’s a similar look.  kangthropologie_age_IMG_8397

No.  The title of this blog post is not an asian joke reference.  Yes.  Yellow is my favorite color.  Growing up, my mother always dressed my sister in pink and me in yellow.  I guess it just stuck.  Plus, I went to college where our mascot is the yellow jacket.  Here’s to another thing to add to my list of I can’t ever say no to: outerwear, something striped, and anything yellow.  kangthropologie_yellowfever_IMG_8523 kangthropologie_yellowfever_IMG_8525 kangthropologie_yellowfever_IMG_8530kangthropologie_yellowfever_IMG_8529I am always in a J.Crew mood whenever I just return from Dallas, and J.Crew makes the brightest, boldest colored sweaters there are in America.  I am wearing a J.Crew Perfect Cable Sweater in Bright Lemon.  This sweater is currently on sale and comes in several other colors, (I recommend Bright Ocean and Wildfire).  I may be petite in stature, but I always purchase tops in regular vs. petite size because of my long torso.
kangthropologie_yellowfever_IMG_8531 kangthropologie_yellowfever_IMG_8524

These One Teaspoon Ivory Bonitas are my new favorite pair of denim shorts.  I would wear them all day, everyday if weather and dress attire permits.  I’ve worn them before in HEY MICKEY, and want to emphasize again how much I love One Teaspoon denim.  These can get pricey, so if you’re looking for a more affordable option, here’s a similar look.kangthropologie_yellowfever_IMG_8521

I lucked out BIG TIME on this pair of IRO Channel-Quilted Kiara Boots in White.  They were on super ri-donculous sale at Barneys Warehouse.  They’re leather.  They’re white.  They’re ankle boot. It’s a perfect transition into spring boot.  PLUS, they’re very versatile.  Can’t wait to wear this with my dresses.  Here’s a similar look.kangthropologie_yellowfever_outfit

What is up with this crazy a$$ LA weather?!  First it’s hot, then it’s rainy, and now it’s cold and windy. My sinuses are off the chain, and this has me bundling up in my coziest sweaters, comfy boyfriends jeans, and sturdy combat boots.  I’m ready for the rain and wind, but I’m keeping my shades on because the sun does still come out here and there.kangthropologie_sweaterweather_outfit2 kangthropologie_sweaterweather_IMG_8512kangthropologie_sweaterweather_outfit3kangthropologie_sweaterweather_IMG_8509

This is a pair of CARMAR Low Rise Boyfriend Jean that I purchased on sale from LFStores during their end of the summer season sale last year.  LFStores is currently having another one of their end of the season sales again, and their fall and winter collections are 60% off.  If you live in LA, I would recommend visiting their outlet store off Melrose since they’re constantly adding new stock to their outlet inventory.

I recommend buying these jeans when they’re on sale because prices can go as low as $30-$40, which is fabulous since they’re usually $200+ at regular price.  Here’s a similar look.kangthropologie_sweaterweather_IMG_8516

I’m wearing the French Connection Leopard Print Sweater in White.  I’m wearing a size small, which runs slightly big on me, but I like the loose-fit feel.  This jumper is no longer available, but here are similar looks:

I just absolutely adore these Bar III Blue Lace-Up Faux-Fur Combat Booties.  They’re currently on sale and they are so comfortable to wear.  It’s faux-fur, but they keep my feet super warm.  I love the tomboy charm that it gives me with this outfit.  Sometimes you just need a pair of rugged brown boots that you don’t mind chilling in.

Whenever I have a nice lunch, a business casual meeting, or want to go shopping at some fancy boutiques, my outfit of choice is always a nice button-up silk blouse and a pair of designer denim.  There’s something about the two that says I’m easy-going, but I take my fashion seriously.

I like to kick it up a notch by wearing lingerie that I wouldn’t mind peeking out slightly from my blouse.  It’s like putting the puzzle pieces together and connecting the dots.  It just fits.

kangthropologie_connectdots_IMG_8141 kangthropologie_connectdots_outfit2kangthropologie_connectdots_IMG_8318

Do yourself a favor and invest in a few nice silk blouses.  It’s pricey, but it’s definitely worth the fit, the cut, the quality, and the workmanship.  I recommend Equipment as your brand of choice for luxury blouses.  They usually run around $200-$250 at regular price, which is kind of stiff for a shirt, but they go on sale often and become half of it’s original price.  My cut of choice from this brand would be their Slim Signature Blouse.  This brand is sold at most high-end department stores as well as online stores.  Shop around and you’ll find some great pieces that are on sale right now.

The next best thing to an Equipment blouse is a custom made silk blouse, which is what I’m seen wearing here.  I have had the luxury of picking out my own silk fabrics and had them made into custom fit blouses.  My torso is extra long, but my arms are not, so having shirts custom made to fit my proportions is key to a great blouse.  I love tiny polka-dotted shirts because it reminds me of the 60s and 70s.  It screams vintage to me, which also means classy to me.  Here’s a similar look, but if you really wanted to splurge

I’m really into high rise jeans right now so I’m wearing a really old pair of Citizens for Humanity Hutton Wide Leg Jeans.  It’s high rise, wide leg, and has a slight stretch to the fabric.  What I love most about this pair of denim is the dark, rich fabric.  It slightly flares at the bottom, which gives this look an extra vintage vibe.  Here’s a similar look.

I’m a bit under-the-weather today due to the constant temperature change.  My body is all out of whack because it doesn’t know if it’s cold or hot.  Is anyone else feeling sick from the weather changes?

Back in 2015, (which was just 5 days ago), I blogged about the BEST COMBO: plaid shirt paired with denim.  Here in 2016, I still have to say that’s the best combination to ever hit casual wear.  Fashion changes and evolves, but the classic pieces stay the same.  So no matter how much you go through time travel in the last millennium, you will always find a great plaid shirt with a great pair of denim.kangthropologie_bttf_IMG_7781kangthropologie_bttf_IMG_7780kangthropologie_bttf_IMG_7779kangthropologie_bttf_outfit

I’m wearing an Uniqlo Women Flannel Check Long Sleeve Shirt in Red, which is now sold out.  Here’s a similar look.

What I love about this color combination is the red and hunter green plaid.  I wore this outfit over the Christmas holiday and it was a perfect choice.  I wear this shirt year round because it’s light and comfy.  I think red is a great color for any plaid shirt, and it usually goes well with other colors combinations.kangthropologie_bttf_outfit2

Overall, 2015 was a pretty good year for me.  Lots of changes, but these changes have helped me grow and evolve into a more creative person.  I started this fashion blog, KANGTHROPOLOGIE, chopped off my hair (updated pics to come), and developed new friendships.  But 2015 was yesterday, literally, and today is the first day of 2016.  I look forward to what this year has to bring, and I hope you come along for the ride.  At least for the fashion, the travel, and the shopping.  Hope everyone had a great New Year’s Eve!  Happy New Year everyone!kangthropoloige_overall_IMG_7467kangthropologie_overall_IMG_7472kangthropologie_overall_IMG_7471kangthropologie_overall_IMG_7470kangthropologie_overall_IMG_7469kangthropologie_overall_IMG_7471kangthropologie_overall_IMG_7475kangthropologie_overall_IMG_7476

I decided to ring in the new year and post this overalls outfit to signify the end of a year and the beginning of another.  I’m wearing a pair of Rollas East Coast Denim Flare Overalls from Nasty Gal that I purchased during their additional 40% off sale, which is happening again right now.  These overalls are now sold out on Nasty Gal, but still available and on sale at Urban Outfitters.

I’m wearing an XS and these denim fit great on the bod, but the legs are super duper long.  I’m wearing my highest possible Jeffrey Campbell The Studio Platform Sandals and the hem still drags on the ground.  I like that these overalls have a stretch to the denim fabric, and is super high-waisted.  I think it’s incredibly adorable and have already received lots of compliments on how cute they are when I wear the out.

I’m wearing a simple graphic tee from Vince.  Here’s a similar look.

I’m a dog-owner kind of person.  In fact, I love animals of all kinds, but still on the fence about cats.  Their duplicit personality freaks me out.  But one of the greatest things to come from the world of felines is the leopard-print.

Part of being female is the luxury to wear and own leopard print.  It screams, “I am female, hear me roar.”  Leopard-print is essential in every fashionista’s wardrobe.  Don’t be scared of it.  Yes, it can be fierce, loud, and ostentatious; however, this print can transform something so simple and casual into a stylish and trendy outfit.  It’s vital that this print is worn with something minimal so that there’s a balance.

This denim jacket is sooo money!  I am so glad I purchased this Nasty Gal After Party Vintage Wanted Denim Jacket.  It does run a little big on me, but it’s suppose to worn kind of trucker style.  I love the distressed vintage look of the reworked Levi’s denim jacket, and it has all the classic Levi’s feel.  This is seriously my FAVORITE jacket right now.  This jacket is now sold out.  Can’t blame them.  It was on sale for less than $30.  You can always get on the waitlist in case this item goes back in stock or here are similar looks:

Meow.  That’s all I can say about this Nasty Gal Square Up Plunging Romper in Leopard.  It’s on sale and it’s on point.  I was worried about ordering the XXS, but the reviews and size guide pointed me to this size.  This size may run a little short if you’re taller than 5’4″, but if you’re short and petite then this is the size for you.

This dress is VERY plunging as you can see from the photos.  I think this dress is better fitted for women with a smaller bust, (anything C-cup and under).  I brought this dress with me to Dallas and will most likely be wearing this for NYE with a long sweeper coat.  Here’s a similar look.kangthropologie_meow_IMG_7647

The past couple of days leading up to Christmas and after Christmas have been rather hectic, chaotic, and out right crazy for me.  Understand that I live a single life in LA with my dog, and going home to Dallas means kids, more kids, elders, dogs, parents, and kids again.  With all this frenzy, sometimes you just want to take a break from it all and grab a cup of coffee.  My coffee of choice would be Alfred’s iced coffee with one pump vanilla and room for half and half.  My outfit of choice would be the following:kangthropologie_coffeebreak_IMG_7411 kangthropologie_coffeebreak_IMG_7410

My addiction for One Teaspoon denim has once again emerged, and this time it’s in the form of One Teaspoon Pacifica Cutoffs in Romeos, which are currently on sale at Nasty Gal.  I’ve mentioned before in my post, BANDITS, that this Aussie brand has a tendency to run big, so my recommendation would be to order a size down.  However, after reading all the reviews on Nasty Gal, I decided to order my regular size 25 because everyone was saying how small and fitted this particular style is.  My conclusion?  Yes, this particular style does run more fitted on the hips and booty; however, the waist is still extremely large and loose on me.  Not sure a size 24 would have fit better on my hips and thighs, but it sure would have fit better on my waist.  Here’s a similar look that’s also on sale. kangthropologie_coffeebreak_IMG_7635kangthropologie_coffeebreak_IMG_7637

I’m wearing Nasty Gal’s After Party Vintage Tried and True Flannel in Navy, which is currently on sale for less than $35.  I purchased this whole outfit during their Oh SH!T sale that took an additional 40% off sale items, (see SALES for more details).  This is my first time to purchase clothing from Nasty Gal and they did not disappoint.  This shirt is comfortable, stylish, and easy-to-wear.  It also comes in the color red, which is also on sale.

What I love about this casual, laid-back outfit is that you can wear it almost year round in SoCal.  A boyfriend-style plaid shirt, a pair of denim shorts or jeans, and a cup of coffee is all you need to fit right into that SoCal vibe.kangthropologie_coffeebreak_IMG_7400kangthropologie_coffeebreak_IMG_7634 kangthropologie_coffeebreak_IMG_7403kangthropologie_coffeebreak_IMG_7399kangthropologie_coffeebreak_IMG_7409
